Paul Hanley can’t prevent the catharsis of spurious morality but he can draw ANYONE as the Doctor!
From PAUL HANLEY’S DEVIANTART page
Been a while since I put out an open call for commissions. I usually have a backlog, but right now my only one is a prose story that I’m slowly making headway on. So nothing new to draw, which can make me a bit stir crazy. I need some “down and dirty” commissions I can do in a few hours to keep myself sharp. So with that in mind, I’m offering a very specific sale that’s well below my usual rates…

Like the title says, I’ll draw anyone as the Doctor. With all the current speculation, a lot of people keep asking me “Do you think (blank) would make a good Doctor? What kind of costume do you think they should have?” Well, now you can find out. For just $70, I’ll do a full-body color portrait of any casting choice you have and design a costume for them. Tilda Swinton? Paterson Joseph? Peter Dinklage? Johnny Depp? Rick Mayall? Prince Harry? Nick Frost? Jason Statham? Maggie Smith? Bring it on! But one wrinkle- add $30 if it isn’t someone who’s a celebrity. I’m happy to draw you as the Doctor, but that’s probably a little less fun for my DA audience at large (no offense), so it’ll cost a little extra.

The fine print: these are digital-only (no original art will be shipped to you) and have to be paid for up front. They’ll have minimal backgrounds taken from stock images I already have (the whole idea is that I can do each one quickly)- but I can add an original background for $40 if it isn’t too complex (in other words, don’t ask me to design a console room). I won’t start till an idea’s been agreed on, but once it’s drawn there’s no revisions- each commission is on an “as-is” basis. I reserve the right to turn anything down, though it probably won’t be b/c the idea is too “out there”- I like a challenge. More likely it’ll be because it’s something with too much specific input (sometimes that’s okay, but a lot of the fun for me is designing something out of my own head).

We’re getting lost DOCTOR WHO episodes in November?
I’ve been hearing chatter about this particular rumour for some time. But it’s started to coalesce a little recently so I now feel more comfortable at least reporting on the rumour. I’m still missing anything remotely resembling proper details, such as a conformation from an official source, but still. And the rumour is that we may be getting a whole host of Doctor Who episodes. Not new ones, but episodes not seen anywhere since they were first broadcast. We all know that through a series of cock ups, incompetence and lack of forethought, swathes of episodes of Doctor Who from the sixties were wiped by the BBC. Some episodes were found again, some were sold to other countries, some kept in people’s loft space, but over a hundred episodes of the show were missing, along with episodes, entire series even, of many other BBC shows. What I’ve been hearing, and some of it is attributed to an eccentric engineer who worked for broadcasters across Africa with a taste for science fiction and a habit of taking things for “safe keeping”, is that the BBC have secured a large number of presumed-wiped episodes of early Doctor Who…

Paul Hanley’s vision of the 12 Doctor is only slightly less awesome than finding a Madame Vastra and Jenny honeymoon video!

I remember saying to my buddy Robert Orndoff a couple years ago that I wasn’t opposed to the idea of a female Doctor, but aside from some unlikely candidates like Tilda Swinton, I couldn’t think of someone who’d just naturally fit the part like a Tom Baker or Matt Smith. He quickly replied “Ruth Wilson”. I said, “Who?” So he told me to check out the (great) show LUTHER, and I immediately got what he was talking about. She’s a truly strange and quirky screen presence that just screams “Doctor”, and the show should get her before lousy Hollywood movies do (she’s already in THE LONE RANGER- egads). And since i’ll never get to be the showrunner of Doctor Who myself (because the rest of you are crazy- I’m the only sane one- yes, me), here’s a full-blown Wikipedia-style entry for “my” 12th Doctor (at least till this timeline gets erased on December 25th)… ;)
You can learn more about Ruth Wilson here.
